Season 1992-93 now added
Once again restored from the lost ntl pages, just Season 91-92 to retrieve and re-post now before I have to start digging out the old newspaper and scanner again.
Season 92-93 saw the memorable UEFA Cup tie with Anderlecht, with Hibs going out on away goals after the kind of away performance that is a distant memory for most Scottish clubs these days.
More dismal results against Hearts and Rangers though, and an absurd experience at the indoor Tennent’s Sixes tournament. Read on…
Tennents’ Sixes – I’ll have what the ref’s been drinking… 25 January 1993
Clearly the ref had been sampling a little too much of the sponsor’s product before officiating in Hibs’ tie against Celtic.
Also, the picture shows that Airdrie’s approach to the game was not to be modified by the ‘friendly’ nature of the tournament.
Hearts 1-0 Hibs, 7 November 1992
Never mind Gary Mackay’s cheekbone, what about Ally Mauchlen’s deliberate stamp on Darren Jackson?
If anyone can remember if Hearts ‘dealt with the matter internally’ or if the SFA took any action in response to this televised incident, remind me by leaving a comment below.
