Hibs 5-1 Dundee, 12 August 2000

dundee120800picThis was Hibs’ third game of the season, after a goalless draw at Tynecastle and a comfortable 3-0 win over Dundee United at Easter Road. The other half of Dundee fell victim to a thrashing, though they were the architects of their own downfall, having Caballero sent off before half-time and then pretty much giving up and conceding three of the five in the last ten minutes. This after Latapy had missed a penalty early on too. Continue reading

Dundee 3-4 Hibs, 8 August 1999

I remember watching this game in the pub in Cambridge at a gathering of the Cambridge Mental Hibees, all three of us, a casualty doctor, a neuroscientist and a PR consultant. Sounds like the start of a joke. Continue reading

Hibs 5-2 Dundee, 23 October 1999

The emphatic scoreline on its own disguises the harsh reality that this was only Hibs’ second win of the season, both against the same team. Two wins out of 13 games if you include the League Cup where even the victory over Clyde came courtesy of a penalty shoot-out. Eleven points from as many league games was a meagre haul, actually a point less than at the same stage in our previous Premier League campaign which ended in relegation. Only the thorough mediocrity of other teams kept us in mid-table. Continue reading

Hearts 0-3 Hibs, 19 December 1999

191299hearts1The last derby match of the 20th century delivered, in journalistic parlance, an early Christmas present for Hibs fans, and it was the best Christmas present for some considerable time, both before and after. I watched it in the pub in Cambridge and revelled in a performance that was so dominant the score did it no justice. Continue reading
