I’ve watched the footage just a few times :^) and although it looked initially that the Pars player’s arm tripped Mickey Weir, I don’t think it did – I’m sure Mickey actually tripped over his own feet as he swung at the ball and missed. However, he was definitely pulled back by the defender before that so deserved the penalty anyway.
Amazingly at this point in the season Hibs were still top of the league after 13 rounds of matches. Rangers were fourth behind Aberdeen and Motherwell, albeit by only two points, and Celtic were sixth behind Kilmarnock by another two points. Only six points however (in the days of two points for a win) separated Hibs from Raith in eleventh place.
